To access this scanner the user has to start a scan tool as Kooka, Xsane or Gimp (all programs are accessible from the Desktop menu **Applications**) and can scan documents using the graphical interfaces of these programs.\\ **The use of this scanner is indicated when the user needs to scan pages from a book or some photos, but the operations are extremely slow in case of scan of a large number of pages**.

-The Second scanner is located in [[http://plan.epfl.ch/?room=INR133|IN.R.133]] and is usable only when the office is open (staff can access it 24h). This scanner is an automatic device that can simplify the work of scanning a large number of pages. Using this device, the user generate a pdf file that is sent by email at the address the user specifies. The scanner has an auto feed mechanism, so the pages must be separate and without staple points. 
-The maximum number of pages the scanner can process for a single document is around 100. The actual maximum will depend on the weight of the paper.
